LA LA LAND
Last week I was in LA ...
I haven't been to the US since May last year so this was my first time there since señor trump was voted in. It was great to see that the American people (at least the ones I encountered) are still pleasant. I was a bit apprehensive as I thought that the general mood/ atmosphere would be a lot more tense. But nope. Everything was normal (again, I can only speak for the places I went to and the people I encountered so don't @ me) and everyone was super friendly and chatty, which always takes some getting used to. The Londoner in me was freaking out..
Americans (west coast) cannot stand silently in a lift, they have to say something to you, it's hilarious. And it's never just hello or weather chat it'll be something totally random like 'ohhh don't eat that all by yourself.' (If you're carrying food) Or 'someone's been busy today' (If you're carrying shopping bags) and as they leave the lift the customary 'have a good night'
Drove down to Newport Beach one day and it's so nice there. A lot of the houses by the beach had beautiful gardens with roses and shit .. I don't know when I became so obsessed with foliage but I kept stopping to take pictures of the beautiful flowers.
I hunted down the Kogi food truck, they do fusion Korean and Mexican food, so think kimchi quesadillas and tacos. I had the kimchi quesadilla, calamari taco and the short-rib taco (their special). The kimchi quesadilla was my favourite, who knew kimchi and cheese went so well together? The quesadilla was made using a flakey tortilla, which reminded me of Indian parathas. I'd never had a quesadilla with that kind of tortilla before and it was really good. Sadly the tacos were kind of cold, but the flavours were on point. I had their chocolate tres leches cake for dessert and that was also really good.
On my last day, I had to give them In-N-out, fries animal style duh and ice cream in a puffle cone for dessert, puffle cone > regular cone btw. The smores and salted caramel crunch flavours were special.
Would you believe me if I said I went protein style (the burger wrapped in lettuce)? Yeah, me neither
Have a lovely week 😊
P.S. The last photo was a sign by the hotel pool... what on earth? I have so many questions
P.P.S. Shoutout to my Uber driver
