3 reasons why this weekend was perfect
- Ed Sheeran’s new album
- Amazing food
TL;DR - Barcelona was spectacular, I ate amazing food, with amazing views.. Not a Gaudi fan though. I need to take photography lessons because my photos really do not reflect the amazing-ness.
Okay so first of all, I am not a music critic or anything but Ed Sheerans new album is amazing! I have had it on repeat all weekend and have refused to listen to anything else. Coincidentally, there is a song on the album called Barcelona - Love it!
Right, lets get into it. I arrived in Barcelona nice and early on Friday morning and first thing I did (after dropping my bags) was go on a walking city tour. We visited the Gaudi casas (Casa Mila and Casa Battlo), plaza catalunya, Las Ramblas and into the Gothic quarter where we saw the Barcelona Cathedral. We wandered around the Gothic quarter and then went out into Born, which is outside the old city walls. After the tour I walked down to the ocean, and then back to the hostel for a well deserved nap. This was my first time staying in a hostel and I’m so glad I did. It made travelling alone a lot less daunting. The hostel staff were lovely and I met some really cool people.
I woke up late on Saturday and had a lovely lunch at La Pepita. The food was delicious, and this was the only point during the weekend that I wished I had travelled with someone, because there was so much on the menu that I wanted to try. But as I was on my own, I sensibly ordered 2 dishes (dessert doesn't count). After lunch I walked down to the famous Sagrada Familia. I was still so exhausted though, so after this I went back to the hostel for another nap. (When in Spain, siesta as the Spaniards do)
After my nap, I dragged myself out of bed to go and see the famous magic fountain of Montjuic. And I am so glad I did, it is beautiful. I walked up to the top of the stairs and the views were breathtaking. It was at this moment I fell head over heels in love with Barcelona. (I really wanted to be Team Madrid, but Barcelona has my heart and soul).
The next day I got on a bus and went up to Mount Tibidabo. Shoutout Joey Tribbiani. (Watch Friends season 8 episode 4 if you don't know what I'm talking about).
The views once again were spectacular and I had lunch at an amazing restaurant called Mirable. The lamb I had for lunch was gorgeoussss and I am not a person who calls food gorgeous. Like wow!! I would go back to Barcelona just for that fillet of lamb (I totally get why we eat baby animals - sorry, not sorry Vegetarians/Vegans/PETA). I followed it with an apple pie with cinnamon ice cream. Heaven!
After lunch I visited Parc Guell, unfortunately I was running out of time and was only able to see the outside of the park. I had to rush back to the hostel pick up my things and head to the airport for my flight back to Madrid. Barcelona, I will definitely be back
P.S. There is a Nigerian song which goes ‘and If she follow me go na enjoyment go kill am oh’… I think I killed myself with enjoyment. As I am now very very ill :( :(
